Re: Her, Soc, Pol: Sammelan
Dear fellow sindhis,
It is very delightful to see all of us come together and share our views
this way, especially when our culture seems like a "endangered specie"
particularly in India (please don't label this as pessimism).
I agree with Mr. Kazi that bigotry/discrimination is a result of history
(partition/migration?). And in any case you will always find intolerant
persons. Even before partition as many of you may be knowing that Sant
Kanwar ram who was revered by both Hindus and muslims, was
assassinated by some fundamentalists. These things cannot be
eliminated, but can be minimized with co-operation from all the community
members.
There is huge communication gap on both sides of the fence. Strained
relations between the two countries has further caused commmunication
gap. The younger generation of sindhi hindus is unware of even the
very basic facts. Many people wonder that after we have migrated, is
there anybody speaking sindhi in Sindh now. Many don't know whether
there is something called "Sindhi Muslim". At first place, partition should
not have been supported by our muslim brethren, for which many still
have grudges (as mentioned in Mr. Deepak Mirchandani's mail). But now
we should forget that and take care of our culture because it is difficult
to get what has been lost, whereas it is easy hold what is still in hands.
Today, I see many sindhis have started speaking hindi at home and
are becoming indifferent towards their language which reinforces what
Mr. Kazi has said about Aroras, Tarnejas etc (I didn't know this). It is
really painful and I cann't understand the reason for this. My head makes
me think that sindhis in India will be Hindized completely, but my heart
says that our language and culture will survive all the odds and will start
flourishing again which is reinforced by the discussions going on this list.
Mr. Kazi, please try to forget what happened to you and let us all try that
these things don't happen in the future.
One thing is for sure, any true sindhi will have love for sindh,
tolerance towards other religion, and above all love for our language and
culture.
Thanks for spending your valuable time with me,
Sadaaeen gaDu,
Deepak
