Husenu Fakiiru, Famous Sindhi Folk Singer
Husenu Fakiiru ("Hussain Faqir") [fakiiru is a title for a bhikshu or
mendicant], famous Sindhi Folk and Sufi artist passed away in Mitthii,
Sindh on Saturday at the age of 50. He performed on Radio, TV and in
numerous play. He was famous for compositions and vocals. His
composition of the music and singing in the play Ram Lila (Raamu
Liilaa] in particular is well remembered. He is also known for having
popularized the song 'to khaan thiinde dhaaru' (by Ayaazu Gulu) and
Shah Latif's vaaii, 'laauun muun maaruni siin ladhiiyuun'.
The Fakiiru was a winner of the Mohanu Bhaggatu Award from the
Mohan Bhagat Arts Academy and the Tharu Award from the Sindhi Adabii
(Literary) Sangatu.
Piyaaruu Shivani, Secretary of the Mitthi branch of the Sindhi Adabi
Sangatu, [Shivaarnii] organized a memorial meeting in Mitthii. The
Fakiiru is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son, and by his
students, the best known of whom is Saadiku Fakiiru. (also written as
