Hindu Boy Murdered in Shikarpur, Sindh; Protests Erupt

For the first time in the memory of Shikarpuris, a boy has been
murdered. His motorbike was robbed in front of the District Police
Office; a witness says he offered no resistance. Sandeep Kumar, the
sun of pakora seller in Lakhi Daru, was returning from praying in the
local temple in broad daylight.

After 'jarniia' ceremonies, Sandeep's ashes were offered to the Sindhu
river at Sukkur. Hundreds of Shikarpuris turned out to give
condolences. The death has created panic and anguish, and given
the current conditions, particularly so among the thousands of Hindu
Shikarpuris.

Civic and political leaders have declared that they will launch a
protest movement after three days of mourning. A joint statement by
social activist Naveed Alam, Amnesty International Shikarpur leader
Iqbal Ddetto, and others have announced demonstration to protest the
killing. Nasir Magni, Jeay Sindh Movement has announced that they
will plan a human link chain around the police station.
