Take Hwy. 99 south. Take the Cosumnes River Blvd. exit and turn right.
Turn left onto Center Parkway (next street past Ehrhardt). Turn left
into the main entrance of the campus and take the first left to the
parking lot, across the street from the Recital Hall.
About the THE SACRAMENTO ARCHEOLOGICAL SOCIETY:

SAS is a non-profit, educational, and scientific, organization providing
workshops and training. Proceeds from this event will fund scholarships
in the local community and support on-going preservation and training
programs offered by the society.
The annual keynote event of the Sacramento Archeological Society is
dedicated to presenting an individual whose work advances the field of
archeology in important ways. The Sacramento Archeological Society is an
association of Sacramento Valley residents who are dedicated to
furthering public understanding of archeology, pre-history, the historic
era, and the importance of preserving our cultural heritage.
About the Speaker:
===================
Dr. Jonathan Mark Kenoyer, Professor in Anthropology, teaches
archaeology and ancient technology at University of Wisconsin, Madison.
His main focus is on the Indus Valley Civilization and he has worked in
Pakistan and India for the past 24 years. Since 1986 he has been the
Co-director and field Director of the Harappa Archaeological research
Project, a long-term study of urban ]development in
the Indus Valley.
He has conducted archaeological research and excavations at
Mohen-jo-daro and Harappa, two of the most important early sites in
Pakistan, and he has visited all of the major sites in the country. He
has a special interest in ancient technologies and crafts, which has led
him to study a broad range of cultural periods in South Asia, as well as
other regions of the world.
Dr. Kenoyer was born in India and lived there until he came to the U.S.
for college. He as a B.A. in Anthropology from University f California,
Berkeley and completed his M.A. and Ph.D. (1983) in South Asian
Archaeology from the same university. He speaks several South Asian
languages.
Dr. Kenoyer's illustrated presentation will present the most recent
discoveries of the Indus Valley Civilization in Pakistan and in Western
India. Important topics will include art, symbol and technology, as well
as the enigmatic undeciphered Indus script. A major topic of Dr.
Kenoyer's presentation will be the origins of writing and urbanism in
the Indus Valley. The decline of the Indus cities will also be
discussed, along with the gradual emergence of Indo-Aryan cultures in
the northern subcontinent.
