Her: Sindhi Sham- Introduction of Chief Guests

It is our pleasure to announce that one of the most talented Sindhi
singers, Mazhar Hussain, will be participating in the upcoming "Sindhi
Sham" being held at the WSI Office on June 19, 1999 from 4:00 PM to
8:00 PM. THe WSI offices are located near the Cross-section of G and
6th streets in South West area of Washington DC at the following

A short bio-data of the three (3) chief guests who will be gracing this
Sindhi function is as follows.
PROFESSOR DR. MADAD ALI QADRI has served in several teaching and
administration positions at Sindh University for 33 years including
Director - Institute of Languages, Director - Far East and South East
Asia study center; and Dean of Faculty of Arts. He obtained his M.A
from Sindh University and was awarded chancellor's Gold Medal for
securing first position in Humanities and Education faculties. He was
awarded a common-wealth scholarship by British Government to pursue
a Ph.D. in Arabic, which he successfully completed, from University of
London, in 1964. Professor Qadri is a devoted lover of Shah Latif's
poetry and has been a member of Bhit Shah Cultural Center Committee
for many years. He has read several papers highlighting the linguistic
value of Shah's poetry. He has written several articles and has been
published in leading journals of languages.
MR. HASSAN MUJTABA has a long distinguished career in Sindhi
Journalism. He has been one of the leading contributors of poetry and
prose about Sindh and Sindhis. He is a regular contributor to "News
Line" which is a leading English magazine in Pakistan. Recently John
Hopkins University gave him an award for an article that was published
in a leading Malaysian magazine. Mr. Hassan Mujtaba regularly
contributes articles to "Sindh Watch", which is a quarterly magazine
of World Sindhi Institute (WSI).
MR. MAZHAR HUSSAIN is a son of famous Ustad Niaz Hussain and a
disciple of SaeeN Noor Shah in the "Wai" form of singing. He is a
student of the unique classical music style of his illustrious uncle
Ustad Fida Hussain. He is best known for his Wai renderings and is
recipient of many awards in singing. We are proud to mention that
recently he won first prize in a musical contest organized by Zee
TV. This award included an all expenses paid performance tour of North
America, where his singing earned praise from most South Asian
critics.
