Heritage: More on Sami
Hello again:
I have checked the meaning of word "Sami" [pron. saamii] in the
Sindhi-English Dictionary by Prmanand Mevaram and it is as follows:
[A title of respect for Brahmins or priests; one of a class of wandering
fakirs; nom-DE-plume of a celebrated Sindhi poet.]
Our Shah Abdul Latif has extensively used Sami as one of the words for Jogis
in Sur Ramkali. One example follows from Shah:
Taan keein watini wayhu, jaan aahini otakuni mein,
Sami safara haliya, raao chitaey runJNu
ihRo jini uhanJNu, say karami milanda KapaRee
My attempt at Translation:
As long they are here, so long go and sit with them,
Samis will travel, their hearts set on an empty realm,
by fate you meet them, wanderers with such intentions
